BEAUTY - PREVENTION v. TREATMENT

HAIR

Getting regular haircuts - or trims - approximately every 3 months is ideal for everyone and every hair type! When hair becomes damaged, the ends split which can leave hair looking and feeling rough, dull and lifeless. If you colour your hair and/or heat style then you will want to trim as often as every 8 to 12 weeks!

Hair treatments are another great way to prevent damaged hair! There are many types to choose from depending on your hair care needs. For example, some hair may need help with frizz (lack of moisture) -- while some with blonde hair may find they need help keeping brassiness at bay with a purple shampoo, conditioner and leave-in treatment.

There are so many reasons to invest in a good quality silk pillow case! Not only are they hypoallergenic but using a silk pillow case will help your hair and skin retain its moisture as well. Sleeping on silk has been known to help prevent split ends and the appearance of wrinkles as this luxury fabric won't tug at or crease your precious skin or locks while you snooze.

SKIN

Take charge of your skin! It's never too early to start a good skin care regime. This begins with cleansing, toning and moisturizing, with extra emphases on cleansing if you're a heavy makeup wearer. Many people neglect to protect themselves from the harmful rays of the sun (and other free radicals) which can cause permanent irreversible damage such as sun burn, skin cancer and can even accelerate the signs of aging. If you must expose yourself to the sun, wearing SPF products on the body and especially your face are a must regardless of the season! Many opt out of sun exposure (or sun beds) altogether and choose self tanning products instead, this way you're guaranteed to have a safe and healthy sunshine glow.

NAILS

Our nails are an extension of our skin and hair and maintaining them is equally important as your nail health can often be indicative of your overall health. Be sure to keep hands and nails clean, moisturized and tidy. Booking a regular manicure and pedicure goes a long way! Did you know peeling or splitting nails could mean you have a vitamin deficiency? Or that grooves can represent high stress levels and illness? Or worse, spoon-shaped nails could be a sign of iron deficiency or extreme anemia? Cuticle care is just as important to prevent infections in the nail bed.

BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT

Everyone knows the age old advice - drink lots of water and get your beauty sleep! Drinking water has a direct impact on the appearance of your hair, skin and nails as well as your daily energy levels and brain function. Staying well hydrated can help prevent most ailments including headaches, constipation and even kidney stones. The daily recommendation for adults is roughly 2 liters per day so drink up!

Perhaps the most important preventative measure of all - a full 7 to 9 hours of nightly beauty sleep. Not only do you look and feel your best when you're well rested, but sleep deprivation comes with some serious hits to your health and wellness everything from your stress levels, memory, ability to lose weight and can help stave off depression.
